Course Overview

Develop presentation skills and learn facilitation methods and adult learning principles for teaching operators. Become certified to train and order U. S. Department of Transportation certificates for bus/paratransit operators using the DOT’s official training manuals. Receive TSI course materials to teach vehicle operations, emergency management, and customer relations, Receive course materials and learn how to teach classroom versions of Curbing Transit Employee Distracted Driving and Fatigue and Sleep Apnea Awareness for Transit Employees.

Course Elements

• Teaching in various training environments, the trainer’s role

• Adult learning principles 

• Delivery styles and methods, training aids, using multimedia equipment

• Facilitation skills, the art of questioning, managing class participation

• Team teaching, training strategies, the environment, class configuration

• Role-playing exercises and training presentations, self-evaluation

• Pretest, final exam

Who Should Attend

Driver Trainers; Safety Managers; Safety Supervisors; Bus/paratransit Operator Trainers; Training Managers NOTE: This course replaces and combines the Instructors Course in Bus Operator Training, Instructors Course in Paratransit Operator Training and the 1-day Bus/Paratransit Operator Trainer courses into one course.

Registration and Fees

The registration fee is $145 per person. Make checks payable to the Washington State Transit Insurance Pool.

Location and Schedule

This course will take place at the Everett Station fourth floor meeting room. The Everett Station is located at 3201 Smith Ave, Everett, Washington.

Parking is available on the East side of the Everett Station (across the railroad tracks). It’s a five-minute walk across a pedestrian overpass from the parking lot to the Station. Please come a few minutes early to find parking.

The course will run from 8:00 – 4:30, Monday through Friday.

Hotel

There is a room block at the Best Western Cascadia near the Everett Station. Rooms are $139 plus tax. The room block is under “TSI”. Please call (425) 258-4141 for reservations. The Best Western Cascadia is a five-minute walk from the Everett Station. The reservation cut-off date is August 1st, 2021.

COVID-19 Restrictions

Participants will be required to maintain social distancing and wear a mask in the classroom. Participants will have their temperatures checked upon entry. Anyone with a temperature reading indicating a fever will not be asked to not attend.

Cancellation Policy

You may cancel your workshop registration without penalty up to Monday, August 9th, 2021.

Cancellations made after 8/9/2021 will be charged the full workshop fee. WSTIP may cancel the class if fewer than 12 people register for the course. If the course is cancelled, participants will receive a complete refund.
