SUMMARY

Study the four pillars of Safety Management Systems (SMS) and how SMS and System Safety work together to help create a safer working environment. Discover how the application of engineering and management principles, criteria and techniques can help to lower safety risk to acceptable levels. Explore the concepts of safety climate, safety risk management, the hazard reduction matrix as well as the hazard reduction precedence.

• Heinrich Ratio

• System safety; System safety as a management discipline

• Components of the system safety management process

• Roles and activities for the safety unit and safety committee

• Employee selection criteria

• Vehicles, facilities, equipment and systems

• Human resources

• Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)

• Safety and security Activities

• Threat and vulnerability analyses

• Emergency/All-hazards management

• Exercise: informal site audit (PPE required: leather upper, flat sole shoes)

• Pretest, quiz, final exam

REGISTRATION AND FEES

The registration fee is $115 per person. Lunch will be on your own. You will receive an invoice which will be due upon receipt and payable to WSTIP.For information regarding RTAP scholarships for this event, please contact Linda Howell at HowelL@wsdot.wa.gov.

LOCATION AND SCHEDULE

The class will be held at the Pierce Transit Training Center, located at 3701 96th Street SW, Lakewood, WA. The workshop will begin at 8:00 am and run until 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday. Lunch will be on your own. Lodging arrangements can be made at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Lakewood. Phone (253) 582-7000. The room block is under TSI. Rooms are $124 plus tax.

CANCELLATION POLICY

You may cancel your workshop registration without penalty up to Monday, June 8, 2020. Cancellations made after 06/08/2020 will be charged the full workshop fee. If the course is cancelled, participants will receive a complete refund.
