Steps to Becoming a Supervisor

This workshop provides an overview and introduction to help you take the steps to become an effective supervisor. Through discussions, self-reflection, classroom activities, and real-life scenarios, you will be able to reflect upon your supervisory and leadership potential, learn tools to becoming an exceptional leader, and strengthen skills around working with their teams. Topics to be covered: Self-awareness, communication skills, coaching, expectations, emotional intelligence, and transitioning from peer to supervisor. 

At the completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Identify the core responsibilities of a supervisor
  • Recognize strengths and identify skill gaps
  • Recognize the value of coaching, mentoring, and training
  • Identify your leadership style and adapt your style to others

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Those new to their role as supervisors will receive a rock solid foundation to the role of supervisor and be ready to take it on when they return to work. Veteran supervisors will be refreshed and re-energized by the useful tips and be armed with a different communication model.

WORKSHOP PRESENTER

Jan Dwyer Bang owns Boundless Results, a speaking, training, consulting, and coaching business located in Sumner, Washington.  Her major clients include the state of Washington, and multiple cities and counties.  She speaks and trains regularly on leadership, supervision, teambuilding, and communication skills.  She is an active member of the National Speakers Association for over twenty years and previously served as president of the Northwest Chapter of the National Speakers Association.  Jan is one of less than 500 women worldwide who has the Certified Speaking Professional designation (CSP), awarded by the National Speakers Association for platform excellence and client satisfaction.  Her website is www.jandwyerbang.com.    

REGISTRATION AND FEES

The registration fee is $75 per person. The registration fee includes workshop materials, coffee, water, and snacks. Lunch will be on your own. Make checks payable to the Washington State Transit Insurance Pool.

LOCATION AND SCHEDULE

The class will be held at the Pierce Transit Training Center in Lakewood. The Training Center is located at 3720 96th St. SW, Lakewood, WA. The workshop will begin at 8:30 am and run until 5:00 pm. Lunch will be on your own.

CANCELLATION POLICY

You may cancel your workshop registration without penalty up to Wednesday, July 17th, 2019.


Cancellations made after 07/18/2019 will be charged the full workshop fee. WSTIP may cancel the class if fewer than 12 people register for the course. If the course is cancelled, participants will receive a complete refund.
