Finance for Non-Financial Professionals


This course will cover what a governmental professional should know about budgeting, finance, and related topics. The goal will be to equip the participant with knowledge and skills to be successful in their non-financial role within their organization. This one-day course will include a wide variety of topics, best practices, and practical examples to give the participants a practical approach to managing their financial responsibilities.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

This class will benefit first time non-finance governmental professionals.

WORKSHOP PRESENTER

Mike Bailey has worked in local government finance since 1980 and is the Finance Director for the City of Redmond. Mr. Bailey is a former president of the Washington Finance Officers Association (WFOA) and past member of the Government Finance Officer Association (GFOA) Executive Board. He is the local government representative on behalf of GFOA to the Streamlined Sales Tax Project (SST). Mike conducts numerous workshops and trainings in the local government setting.

Mr. Bailey earned his degree in Business Administration and a MBA from the University of Puget Sound. He is a CPA and an executive education studies graduate of Harvard’s JFK School of Government.

REGISTRATION AND FEES

The registration fee is $75 per person for members and $90 for non-members (see below). The registration fee includes workshop materials, coffee, water, and snacks.Lunch will be on your own.Make checks payable to the Washington State Transit Insurance Pool.

MEMBERS AND NON-MEMBERS

Members are determined to be employees of transportation systems providing services to the public in Washington State and members of the partner organizations that make up the Coalition. The partners are: Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), Washington State Transit Insurance Pool (WSTIP), Washington State Transit Association (WSTA), Community Transportation Association of the Northwest (CTA-NW) and Eastern Washington University Northwest Tribal Technical Assistance Program.

LOCATION AND SCHEDULE

The class will be held at the WSTIP Office located at 2629 12th Court SW in Olympia, WA 98502. The workshop will begin at 8:30 am and run until 5:00 pm.Lunch will be on your own. CANCELLATION POLICY

You may cancel your workshop registration without penalty up to Wednesday, April 19th.
Cancellations made after 4/19/17 will be charged the full workshop fee. The Training Coalition may cancel the class if fewer than 12 people register for the course. If the Training Coalition cancels the course, participants will receive a complete refund.
