SUMMARY

Learn about effective tools and techniques relating to data collection, on-scene evidence documentation, damage and debris evidence analysis, witness interview techniques, computation of simple speed estimates, and report writing. Gain in-depth practical application knowledge of accident reconstruction techniques and the use of mathematical formulas to evaluate contributing factors associated with bus collisions/investigations. This course also includes and introduction to Safety Management Systems (SMS) principles, basic collision investigation procedures. Knowledge of high school algebra will greatly assist participants to successfully complete this course.

 

Course Elements

• Introduction of SMS Principles

• Chain of events in a collision and investigator tools

• Center of mass and evaluating damage and debris

• Interpretation and measurement of marks on the road

• General principles of collision investigation math and use of calculators

• Minimum speed estimates from skid marks and yaw marks

• Interview techniques

• Principles of field sketching

• Photography

• Collision case preparation and presentation workshop

• Outdoor exercise (PPE required: leather upper, flat sole shoes)

• Pretest, quizzes, homework, group presentations, final exam

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Bus Operator Trainers, Collision Investigators, Safety Managers and Supervisors, Operations and Maintenance Managers/Supervisors, Risk Managers, Local Law Enforcement personnel (traffic/accident investigators).

 

All participants will need to bring a calculator to class. A simple calculator which offers the square root function is required. Scientific calculators are discouraged due to the fact that most of these models include and “automatic rounding” function.

 

It is recommended that participants wear business casual attire. Participants must dress in appropriate attire that is not offensive or disruptive to the learning environment.

 

On day four, there will be an outdoor exercise. Please wear the following:

 

· Leather upper, flat sole shoes (no open toe, sandals, or heels)

· Long pants or jeans

· Shirt suitable for an industrial environment

REGISTRATION AND FEES

The registration fee is $85 per person. Lunch will be on your own. You will receive an invoice which will be due upon receipt and payable to WSTIP.

LOCATION AND SCHEDULE

The class will be held at the Enduris Training Facility, located at 1610 Technology Blvd, in Spokane, WA. The workshop will begin at 8:00 am and run until 4:30 pm, Monday through Thursday. Class will end at noon on Friday. Lunch will be on your own. Lodging arrangements can be made at the Wingate by Wyndham Spokane Airport Hotel, 2726 South Flint Road, Spokane. Phone(509) 838-3226.

CANCELLATION POLICY

You may cancel your workshop registration without penalty up to Monday, September 10, 2018.
Cancellations made after 09/10/2018 will be charged the full workshop fee. As the host for a TSI course, the WSTIP needs to fill 12 seats. If the course is cancelled, participants will receive a complete refund.
