What's the recommendation from WSTIP regarding the transporting of baby strollers onboard buses WITH the child still in the baby stroller?  Over the years, BFT has always required the parent (guardian) to take the child out of the stroller once they get back to their bus seat.  The reason being, the stroller can create an obstruction (in the isle way), but more importantly because of the added danger IF the operator has to suddenly & abruptly brake to avoid an accident the "weighted" stroller would fly forward.  This policy is now under question, so I thought I'd run it by WSTIP's helpful ears.

This is a question from Ed Rutledge at Intercity Transit.  Ed is the HR Director at IT.  He wants to find out from other transits the following:

1.  Are other members experiencing any ongoing Operator  issues (WC Claims) with shoulder straps in Gillig vehicles?

2.  Have any removed the shoulder strap from the operator cage?

Thanks,

ED

Does your agency have any policies or procedures for loading and transporting strollers aboard your vehicles?  Do you allow children to remain in the stroller?  Can the driver use the lift to load the stroller?

We are working on developing an updated policy on use of the company computer, internet and telephone. We are also looking for policies on cell phone usage during work hours in company vehicles. Any agencies that have these policies in place..we would appreciate a copy.
